This project involved construction of an air cargo terminal, comprising two major buildings covering a site area of approximately 170, 000 square metres, at Chek Lap Kok. The 40-metre-high main terminal building incorporated a five-storey heavy reinforced concrete frame, bounded on the east and west sides by some 6,500 tonnes of structural steel racking for a Container Storage System, and on the north and south sides by two 11-storey office accommodation blocks and an Express Centre with a 46,000-square metre floor area for express and courier operators. The building utilized nearly 300,000 cubic metres of concrete, 800,000 cubic metres of framework, and 52,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement. Works also included an 800-metre elevated road, building services, system installation and high quality fitting-out works for the office area.
